Mother's Day 2021

Posted May 4, 2021

Mother’s Day is a celebration that means many things to many different people. For some it is a day of celebration, for some a day of remembrance, and for some it is a day of heartache and exclusion.

Growing up in a house where Mother’s Day wasn’t really celebrated, this holiday has always been a bit of an enigma. Beyond the annual breakfast in bed cooked by Dad and the cards we made at school and church, there never seemed to be much substance to the day. As an adult I realise I could not have been more wrong!

Mother’s Day encapsulates so many celebrations.

Celebrations of nurturing, education, love, and dedication from anyone and everyone who has stepped into a mothering role. It’s a day to acknowledge complex feeling about love hoped for, love lost, and even love rejected. It is also a day to reflect on God as our Mother.

As children’s ministry leaders and members of faith communities we have an incredible privilege in guiding children and families as they explore what Mother’s Day means to them. Check out the resources below to help you celebrate Mother’s Day with your faith community.
